US Online Casinos Are Hard to Find
In October, 2006, President Bush signed a bill that in effect put an end to US online casinos. The meaning of this was that it was illegal for any US residents to gamble online at a casino site based within the United States. As a result the millions of US online gamblers began looking for casinos that accept US players. Most of these casinos were offshore sites, meaning that their corporate offices were located outside of the United States but that these casinos accept US players.
The U.S. Federal Government is not interested in the actual online players, but is after the revenues that they produce which are difficult to trace for tax purposes. Therefore, the Bush bill put a ban on banking institutions transferring funds to businesses or individuals that conduct gambling operations in states where gambling is prohibited.
In order not to become involved with possible court actions, some off shore online casino sites, such as Microgaming, stopped accepting U.S. residents as players in their online casinos. However, there are many world wide online casinos that accept US players. In particular, all UK and British online casinos are casinos that accept US players.
It is possible still to find US online casinos because not all of the states have banned online gambling. A surf on the internet will give you lists of US online casinos in addition to lists of casinos that accept US players.
New Legislation for US Online Casinos
The congressman from Massachusetts, Barney Frank, has suggested new legislation that would legalize online gambling in the U.S. wherein the taxes on regulated online gambling would be used to finance the new Health Care Reform. If this bill passes through the House of Representatives and the Senate, US online casinos would be back in business.
It will be interesting to follow this suggested bill called The Internet Gambling Regulation and Tax Enforcement Act.
Meanwhile, U.S. residents can continue to gamble at online casinos that accept US players.
